Hello, August!

Hello, August!

Summer has gone swiftly this year, each day spilling over with fresh-cut blooms and the quiet hum of the harvest. This week especially has been non-stop — buckets full, hands full, and barely a moment to catch our breath.

Zinnias in Full Swing

Zinnias are having their moment right now being little explosions of color, held up on stems sturdy and straight enough for any vase. Not sure when to cut? Try the "wiggle" test: give the stem a gentle shake, and if it stays firm, it's ready to harvest. The beauty of zinnias is that the more you cut, the more they bloom — a little reward for showing up with your shears.

Marigolds, Doing Double Duty

Another bloom that's caught our eye lately is the marigold. These beauties aren't just pretty faces in the field, they're hardworking, too. Marigolds are famously deer-resistant, with a strong fragrance in both foliage and flower that keeps most invasive pests at bay, while their roots quietly work below the soil to repel nematodes. Gorgeous and practical, our favorite kind of flower.

Dahlias on the Horizon

And just around the corner, our dahlias are getting ready to steal the show. By mid-August, we're usually surrounded by these little enigmas in every shape and shade imaginable. They're always worth the wait.

Until next week!
