Dainty Blooms, First Dahlias, and a Little Fish Fertilizer Magic

This week brought a harvest full of surprises as some blooms are saying their goodbyes, and others are just beginning to show us what they've got. Grab a cup of coffee and settle in, because there's a lot to share.

Lisianthus, Taking Their Final Bow

This week swept in with the last of the lisianthus. These beauties were troopers this season, battling the peculiar summer weather and those pesky bunnies. Fortunately, we have a fabulous CSA bouquet this week filled with our Champagne variety, just for you! This week's bouquets are looking especially dainty and pink, with the ruffled, rose-like lisianthus blooms pairing beautifully with the season's other blush tones.

Amaranth, the Showstopper

Another interesting harvest this week was our amaranth. Amaranth sure is a showstopper, with its cascading blooms making it a hot commodity for florists and weddings — especially since it's known for holding its color so beautifully.

First Dahlias of the Season

We even had the delight of harvesting our very first dahlias! It takes a trained eye to know when these guys are ready, since each variety looks different at its harvesting stage. We're encouraging them to reach for the skies as we keep feeding them with our organic fish fertilizer. It sure doesn't smell good, but boy, do our flowers drink it up! Fish fertilizer is rich in nitrogen for lush growth and slow-releases nutrients without burning tender roots, all while feeding the beneficial microbes that keep our soil healthy. A little stinky, sure, but our dahlias couldn't be happier for it.
